Quiet Riot 버전으로 더 유명한 Slade의 흥겨운 록 넘버 <Cum data-on Feel The Noize>

Quite Riot의 세계적인 히트곡 <Cum data-on feel the noize>의 원주인인 영국 록밴드 Slade(슬레이드)의 83년작 (건전)발라드. [The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome]앨범에 수록됐다.

어디서 들어봄 직한 멜로디를 가진 <My Oh My>의 저자 Slade는 영국에서 60년대 말에 결성돼 70년대 초까지 폭풍치듯 인기를 모은뒤 70년대 말까지 옛 영화를 그리다가 다시 80년대초 불꽃처럼 다시 타올랐다.

글램록으로 분류돼있으며 단순하면서도 시원한 사운드가 일품인 슬레이드의 시작은 원년멤버인 Dave Hill과 Don Powell이 울버햄튼-설기현이 뛰었던 팀의 연고지-에서 1964년 'The Vendors'란 이름을 내걸었을 때부터다.

이 두명은 이듬해 'The In-Be-Tweens'으로 이름을 바꿨고 1966년엔 Noddy와 Jim이 합류했다. 3년 뒤 다시 'Ambrose Slade'으로 3번째 그룹명 개조에 나섰고 연말에 가서야 'Slade'로 확정했다.

데뷔앨범부터 슬레이드는 대략 성공의 길을 걸었다. 69년부터 73년까지 6곡의 영국차트 1위 곡을 배출했으며 여기엔 <Cum data-on feel the noize>도 이름을 내걸었다. 이후 82년까지 Top 10도 버거울만큼의 인기를 보여줬지만 83년 지금 흐르는 <My Oh My>가 2위에 오르며 화려하게 부활했다.

이후 91년까지 69년 멤버 그대로 32년을 연주해온 슬레이드는 91년 <Radio Wall of Sound>를 영국 21위에 올리며 노익장을 과시했다.

정작 재미있는 것은 이들의 노래가 2007년까지도 영국 차트에 모습을 드러낸 것인데, 이들이 1973년 발표해 1위를 차지한 <Merry Xmas Everybody>가 그 주인공이다. 영국서 크리스마스면 으레 흘러나오는 노래 중 하나가 된 이 곡은 73년 정상에 오른 뒤 재녹음한 80년부터 86년까지 크리스마스 시즌에 다시 등장했고 2006, 2007년에도 이름을 드러냈다.

자알 만든 노래 하나, 밴드나 대중이나 행복한 역사가 된다.
