패티 스미스(Patti Smith)는 시인이자 록 싱어이다.
롤링 스톤즈(Rolling Stones), 벨벳 언더그라운드(Velvet Underground),
지미 헨드릭스(Jimi Hendrix), 제임스 브라운(James Brown)의
음악에 매료되었던 그녀는 초기에는 시와 예술에 자신의 재능을 집중시켰다.
레이 만자렉(Ray Manzarek)의 솔로 앨범에
짐 모리슨(Jim Morrison)의 시를 녹음한 것을 필두로,

가했다. 79년 [Wave]를 발표한 후 기타리스트 프레드 소닉 스미스(Fred "Sonic" Smith)와
결혼한 패티는 70년대의 대단했던 활동들을 접고 일상으로

약 10년 동안 아내로서, 두 자녀의 어머니로서 가정에 충실했던 패티는 88년 [Dream of Life]로
다시 창조적인 작품활동을 개시했고,
