The First Vineyard Record: All the Earth Shall Worship
My professor, Dr. Lester Ruth, found this pristine copy of the first ever Vineyard worship album. It was in great shape and some friends of his knew that he was doing research on John Wimber so they passed it on to him. My transfer wasn't the best, since I had a thrift store record player, but it was good enough to listen to these recordings and realize how influential they were.
The interesting thing about many of these songs is how easy they are to sing. Dr. Ruth and I were looking at the picture of the congregation on the back of the lp, and they didn't have any songbooks and there didn't seem to be any sort of projection. The songs seem to be written in a style that leads towards quick familiarity, and the lyrics are mainly scripture, taking form from the psalms.
These songs are simple to sing (showing Wimber's Motown influences), and it is obvious that they are written with a congregation in mind. I thought this was an interesting look into what has become one of the premier worship outlets. Check out the intro track to the record.
