When the Earth was still flat
And clouds made of fire
And mountains stretched up to the sky
Sometimes higher
Folks roamed the Earth
Like big rolling kegs
They had two sets of arms

They had two faces peering

So they could watch all around them

Of our strength and defiance
And Thor said,
“I’m gonna kill them all with my hammer
Like I killed the giants”
But Zeus said,
"No, You better let me
Use my lightning like scissors
Like I cut the legs off the whales
Dinosaurs into lizards.”
And then he grabbed up some bolts
He let out a laugh
Said, “I’ll split them right down the middle
Gonna cut them right up in half.”
And the storm clouds gathered above
Into great balls of fire
And then fire shot down
From the sky in bolts
Like shining blades Of a knife
And it ripped Right through
the flesh Of the children of the sun
And the moon And the earth
And some Indian god
Sewed the wound up to a hole
Pulled around to our bellies
To remind us of the price we pay
And Osiris and the gods of the Nile
Gathered up a big storm

대지가 아직 평평했고 구름들은 불타고 있던 시절. 그리고 산맥은 하늘까지 또 가끔은 그 보다도 높게 뻗어 있던 그 때. 사람들은 커다란 술통이 굴러다니듯 대지위를 배회했지.
그들에겐 두쌍의 팔과 두쌍의 다리, 하나의 큰 머리에서 나온 두개의 얼굴을 가지고 있었어. 그래서 그들은 모든 주위를 한꺼 번에 볼 수 있었고 읽으면서 동시에 말할 수 있었지. 그 때 그들은 사랑에 대해선 아무것도 몰랐어.
그것이 바로 사랑의 기원 전.
그 때는 세 개의 성(性)이 있었는데, 하나는 두 남자가 등이 붙은것 같은 모양으로 태양의 아이라고 불렸었지.
지구의 아이 역시 비슷한 모양과 사이즈 였는데 두 여자가 하나로 합쳐진 모습이었어.
그리고 달의 아이들은 숫가락에 포크가 겹쳐진 모양으로 한쪽은 태양 한쪽은 지구 즉, 한쪽은 딸 한 쪽은 아들이었어.
어느날 신들은 인간의 힘과 반항성에 꽤나 겁을 먹게 되었지. 그때, 토르신이 말했어.
"내가 거인족을 죽였던 것 처럼, 내 망치로 전부 몰살시키리라."
그러자, 제우스가 말했지
"아냐, 내게 맡겨. 내가 고래의 발을 자르고 공룡을 잘게 썰어 도마뱀을 만든 것 처럼 내 번개를 가위처럼 써줄테니까."
그러더니 벼락을 몇개 집어들고 큰 웃음 한번 내 뱉고는 이렇게 말했어.
"딱 중간을 쪼개 주리라."
그리고는 폭풍이 하늘위에 모이더니 거대한 불덩이가 되었어. 그리고 불이 벼락이 되어 하늘로 부터 쏘아졌지. 마치 빛나는 칼날 처럼 찢고 뜯어 버린거야. 그 불이 태양과 달과 지구의 아이들의 살을..
그리고 어떤 인도의 신은 그 상처를 구멍이 되도록 꿰메어 배쪽으로 당겨서 옮겨놓아 우리가 치룬 댓가를 언제나 기억할 수 있게 했지. 그리고 오시리스와 나일강의 신들은 커다란 폭풍우와 파도를 몰고와 태풍을 불게하여 우리를 뿔뿔이 흩어지게.. 바람과 비의 폭풍속으로 조수의 파도가 넘치는 바다로 우리 전부 쓸려 나가게 했어. 또 우리가 까불면 또 한번 잘라버릴 거라고 그렇게 되면 한 발로 뛰어 다니고 한눈을 통해 세상을 보게 되겠지.
지난번 널 봤을때는 우리는 막 둘로 나위어 졌을때 였을거야. 넌 날 바라보고 있었고 난 널 바라보고 었었지. 네겐 친숙한 뭔가가 있었지만 난 알아보지 못했었어. 네 얼굴엔 피가 묻어 있었고 내 눈엔 피가 묻어있었기 때문이겠지. 하지만 네 표정을 보니 네 영혼 깊은 곳의 상처는 내 영혼속의 상처와 같은 것 이라는 확신이 들어. 그게 바로 그 상처야.
심장을 직선으로 관통하며 베는 상처 그 상처를 우린 사랑이라 하지. 그래서 우린 서로를 팔벌려 안았지. 서로의 몸에 서로를 집어 넣어 다시 하나게 되게 하면서 우리는 사랑을 했어, 사랑을 했지..
그때는 아주 오래전 춥고 어두운 저녁이었어. 제우스의 전능한 능력으로 말미암은 그때. 그건 슬픈이야기. 우리가 어떻게 외로운 두발 짐승이 되었는지에 대한, 그것은...사랑의 기원에 대한 이야기.
그것이 사랑의 기원....
