[Report] 1. Stonehenge - a thousand years older than the pyramids - one of the world's great archaeological treasures. Now the complex in southern England just got bigger, with the discovery of a neolithic village - thought to house the builders of the monument.
2. It's exciting news for archaeologists.
[Mike Parker Pearson/ Archaeologist] "We also think that it is part of a bigger complex; that Stonehenge wasn't here in isolation sitting on Salisbury Plain, but was part of a much bigger group of monuments, and those houses were all clustered around a timber version of this thing: A great series of timber circles, with their own avenue down to the river."
3. Stonehenge has always been a place of mystery and wonder. The monument works as a solar temple, and would have been used for ceremonies and festivals. The people from the new-found settlement left literally tonnes of debris - which will shed new light on how they lived. Benet Allen, Reuters |
